Layered vertuts

Description

This recipe won't take much time. I personally love all kinds of baked goods, so I'm offering you an excellent recipe for preparing layered vertuts, which will amaze you with their incredible taste and wonderful aroma. For this traditional Moldovan dish, the simplest stretchy dough is usually used, but there are other options as well. For example, I only prepare vertuts using my grandmother's recipe, because with it the pastry turns out very tasty and juicy, while the dough becomes crisp and flaky. You can use any filling you like here—sweet or savory—but I suggest the simplest and most economical option: potatoes with onions. With this easy recipe, it's so simple to treat yourself and your loved ones to delicious homemade pastries.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

First, prepare the dough: crumble fresh yeast into a small bowl, add sugar and a couple of tablespoons of warm milk, and set aside for several minutes. Then pour warm water and milk into a separate bowl, add beaten eggs, salt, and sour cream, and mix thoroughly. Add the yeast mixture and start gradually sifting in flour, kneading the dough. During kneading, add softened margarine in parts. As a result, you should have a very soft and elastic dough that doesn't stick to your hands. Set the dough aside to rise. Meanwhile, grate potatoes and onion together on a coarse grater, season the filling with salt and pepper, pour in a little vegetable oil, and mix well.

When the dough has risen, we divide it into several parts. From each part, we form a ball and roll it out into a round flat layer, place the layers onto a clean towel, and let them rest for a few minutes.

Now comes the most difficult part: we need to carefully stretch each cake layer into a very thin sheet. Then, spray the layer with a mixture of melted margarine and vegetable oil, and place the second stretched layer on top. Similarly, brush this layer with the oil mixture, and place the prepared filling on one half of it.

Next, roll up the dough into a roll, starting from the side with the filling.

And slightly roll the log from the center towards the edges.

Grease the baking pan with vegetable oil and place the roll on it, coiling it into a spiral. Let the vertuta rise for 20-25 minutes, then brush with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 40-45 minutes. Repeat the same process with the remaining dough; you should end up with 3 fairly large vertutas.

We take the hot vertuta out of the oven and serve it at the table. Enjoy your meal, everyone!
