Layered pastries with cabbage
Description
The recipe won't take much time. It's very convenient to make cabbage turnovers at home using pre-cooked cabbage, which significantly reduces the overall preparation time. A great option is to use a mix of fresh and sauerkraut—this will make the filling more flavorful.

Step 1

1. First, let me tell you a bit about how to prepare the filling. Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat it up. Peel the onion and chop finely. Add it to the pan and sauté until translucent. Then add the peeled and finely grated carrots. Shred the cabbage and add it to the skillet. Add salt, pepper, tomato paste, and a little water. Simmer over medium heat until cooked through. Add water as needed, but keep in mind that the recipe for layered cabbage buns requires a dry filling without excess liquid.

Step 2

2. Place the dough onto a floured surface. If you want fluffy buns, you can roll it out slightly or not at all. If you prefer thinner dough, roll it out to approximately double its size. Cut into equal squares or rectangles, depending on the desired shape of your layered buns.

Step 3

3. Place the filling in the center (be careful not to get any on the edges, otherwise it will be difficult to seal the cabbage turnovers at home), and carefully pinch the edges closed, shaping them as desired. Place on a greased baking sheet or one lined with parchment paper.

Step 4

4. To make the buns more golden, brush them with beaten egg yolk before baking. You can also sprinkle them with a handful of sesame seeds, for example. Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 200 degrees and bake until done. This is the beautiful result—quick, delicious, and satisfying.
