Layered apple turnovers

Description

The recipe won't take much time. Apple turnovers were my favorite treat as a child. My mom knew I loved them more than anything else, so she tried to make them more often than other desserts. By the way, this was the first dish I ever cooked myself as a child. The recipe for making puff pastry turnovers is very simple—you could even let your kids help (though not without your supervision, of course). Back then, my mom made the puff pastry from scratch; now you can just go to the store and buy ready-made dough. No complications at all—these turnovers turn out delicious, juicy, and aromatic. Serve them warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

Instructions

    Step 1

    Step 1

To make apple turnovers, we need apples, powdered sugar (can be replaced with regular sugar), cinnamon, and of course chilled puff pastry (mine is chilled). If your pastry is frozen, take it out in advance to thaw.

Roll out the dough into a flat sheet and cut it into neat squares. I cut the apples into medium slices and removed the cores. Sliced apples release less juice, though you can also grate them or dice into small cubes. You can coat the apple pieces in starch, place them onto the dough squares, and sprinkle with cinnamon and a little powdered sugar.

Then we fold the little envelopes—bring together the opposite corners of the square and carefully pinch the edges.

Place the turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 180-200 degrees Celsius for 20-25 minutes. Once ready and cooled, dust the puff pastry turnovers with powdered sugar.
