Cream sauce with basil
Description
Universal dressing for salads and hot dishes. This extremely aromatic sauce takes about 5-8 minutes to prepare. It's perfect with boiled pasta, potatoes, roasted tomatoes, zucchini, or eggplants. Optionally, you can add some ground or fresh garlic while frying. Serve the sauce with meat, fish, or use it as a salad dressing.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Use only store-bought cream with a fat content not exceeding 20%.
- 2
Step 2

Peel the onion and rinse it in water. Cut into small cubes and place in a frying pan with heated odorless vegetable oil.
- 3
Step 3

Add ground basil, salt, and ground black pepper. If you plan to make the sauce with fresh basil, add it chopped at the end of cooking, when the cream thickens.
- 4
Step 4

Sauté the onion and basil for about 2–3 minutes until golden. Add the wheat flour and thoroughly mix with a silicone spatula until the flour absorbs the oil and lightly browns, about 1 minute.
- 5
Step 5

Pour in the cream and immediately stir to prevent lumps from forming.
- 6
Step 6

Simmer over the lowest heat for about 1–2 minutes until thickened, but keep in mind that the sauce will thicken further upon cooling. The optimal consistency is when the sauce leaves a trail behind a silicone spatula or spoon. Turn off the heat.
- 7
Step 7

Place the sauce in a small bowl or sauce dish and serve. If desired, let it cool for about 10 minutes, covering with plastic wrap.
