Description

Homemade baked goods for tea. Classic cherry strudel — a delicious dessert that both children and adults will love. Serve it warm, garnished with whipped cream or ice cream. You can also drizzle the strudel with chocolate or caramel, according to your taste. This recipe uses frozen pitted cherries, making it possible to prepare year-round and saving some time. Serve with tea or coffee.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

    1. Thaw the cherries in advance, transfer them to a colander, and leave to drain all the juice. If the cherries have pits, remove them.

    2. Sift the flour into a large bowl or pot, add the butter, salt, egg, and water. Knead a fairly soft dough.

    Step 3

    3. Knead the dough vigorously (about 10 minutes) on a greased surface. Then wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest for at least half an hour.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    4. Grind the almonds using a blender. Sauté them together with the breadcrumbs in butter for about a minute (just until heated through). Then add the sugar and mix until smooth.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

    5. Slightly roll out the rested dough with a rolling pin on a lightly floured table or other suitable surface. Place it onto a towel (preferably linen). Slide your hands under the dough sheet, palms facing down, and gradually stretch it outward from the center toward the edges. Do not rush, otherwise the dough may tear. Keep stretching until the dough becomes semi-transparent. Try to maintain a rectangular shape. Brush the stretched dough with oil and evenly spread the prepared filling over it, leaving a 3-5 mm border around the edges without filling.

    6. Next, evenly spread the cherries and fold the edges of the dough over the sides. Roll up the strudel (since it will be quite difficult to do this by hand without damaging the dough, use a towel to help), brushing the top with butter after each turn. Pinch the seam closed. Carefully place the resulting strudel seam-side down onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    7. Brush the strudel with melted butter and bake in a preheated oven at 180-190°C for 40-45 minutes. Immediately after baking, brush the hot strudel with butter as well.

    8. Generously and evenly dust the still-warm strudel with powdered sugar (for ease, you can use a sieve).
