Description

The pastry is simple and quick to prepare. Here is an easy recipe for Turkish şekerpare, which I'm happy to share with you. Of course, Turkish pastries are always quite sweet, but this particular recipe has never let me down—the cookies are sweet, yet not overly so. The ingredients are perfectly balanced. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

Instructions

    1. For the dough, mix lemon zest, melted butter, flour, semolina, eggs, butter, and baking powder. Add the nuts as well—they should be ground into flour. Mix until a smooth dough forms.

    2. Shape the cookies by breaking off pieces of dough and slightly flattening them. Decorate each with a small piece of nut or a berry. Bake on a greased baking sheet for about 25 minutes at 180 degrees.

    3. While the cookies are baking, melt the sugar in water, add the juice of one lemon, and remove from heat. This is our syrup! Pour the syrup over the baked cookies and serve.

    4. This is the beautiful result on a plate. You can eat the cookies while they're hot, washing them down with cold milk or cold tea. They also go well with hot beverages.
