Classic shawarma
Description
The recipe won't take much time. You can use any type of meat or poultry, but shawarma turns out fastest and tastiest with chicken fillet. You can marinate it in advance, or simply fry it without spices, adding a flavorful sauce later along with the other fillings. Be sure to use pickled or marinated cucumbers and tomatoes. Optionally, add cabbage salad or sauerkraut, fried potatoes, bell peppers, carrots, etc. The sauce must be made with thick yogurt or sour cream, garlic, and herbs. Serve shawarma hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Peel the potatoes and rinse them together with the tomatoes and herbs. Peel the garlic cloves and rinse them as well.
- 2
Step 2

Slice the potatoes and fry them for about 15-20 minutes in 20-30 ml of vegetable oil in a frying pan, stirring occasionally.
- 3
Step 3

Shred the cabbage into a salad bowl or a bowl, chop the dill and add half of it to the cabbage along with a pinch of salt and a pinch of ground black pepper. Gently rub by hand, mixing, until the cabbage releases its juice. Pour in 1 tsp of vegetable oil and mix.
- 4
Step 4

Cut the pickled cucumbers into long strips, and slice the tomato into rounds, removing the green core.
- 5
Step 5

Heat a frying pan with vegetable oil. Cut the chicken fillet into slices, but not too thick. Place on the pan, season with salt and pepper, and fry each side until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
- 6
Step 6

Place sour cream or thick yogurt of any fat content into a bowl and press the garlic cloves into it. Add salt, ground pepper, and the remaining chopped dill. Gently mix everything together.
- 7
Step 7

Lay the lavash flat on a cutting board or work surface and place the cabbage salad on one edge, then add the fried potatoes on top.
- 8
Step 8

On top of them — fried slices of chicken fillet or any other meat you have chosen, as well as pickled or marinated cucumbers.
- 9
Step 9

Serve with sauce and colorful tomato slices. Optionally, sprinkle with various spices and seasonings. Remember, there should be enough sauce so that the shawarma doesn't turn out dry.
- 10
Step 10

Tuck the side edges neatly inward and roll everything up into a log. Press the filling firmly, but not so hard that the lavash tears.
- 11
Step 11

Preheat an electric grill or a grill pan and place the shawarma patty on the surface. Cook on the electric grill for 4-5 minutes, or on the skillet under a press for 3-4 minutes on each side over medium heat.
- 12
Step 12

Then remove the hot shawarma and cut it in half. Enjoy the flavor of this perfectly prepared dish. Bon appétit!
