Spiced salted herring
Description
I prefer to cook similar dishes more often, so I like to marinate and salt the fish myself. The fish will be 100% tastier and healthier than store-bought. I usually serve herring with plenty of onion and herbs, and for sides I prefer boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes. The most important thing in preparation is to wait the required time, and only then do we proceed to tasting.

Step 1

1. I prepare all the necessary ingredients: I use the most ordinary salt, coarse-grind is fine, and the spices are sold already as a ready-made set. I pour water into a pot, add salt, sugar, and spices, put the pot on the heat and bring to a boil, then remove from the heat and let cool.

Step 2

2. Rinse the herring under running tap water and place it in a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid; pour the prepared brine over the fish. Seal the lid tightly and refrigerate for storage (for 5 days).

Step 3

3. After the required time, I take the fish out of the refrigerator and prepare it: remove the head and trim off the fins, clean out the innards, and rinse the fish under running water.

Step 4

4. I cut the prepared fish into pieces and serve it with onion and boiled potatoes.
