Description

Sbiten is traditionally made with honey; it's a very tasty and healthy drink. It's usually non-alcoholic, but you can use a bottle of red wine instead of water (dry or sweet—your choice, but keep in mind that the drink will also contain jam and honey, so it's better to use dry red wine). By the way, be sure to strain the drink afterward, otherwise it will be inconvenient to drink sbiten with the berries in it. Here you go, the drink is ready to serve.

    Place the wine in a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Meanwhile, prepare the ginger and nutmeg: grate the nutmeg, and finely chop or grate the ginger. You can also use powdered ginger.

    When the wine comes to a boil, add all the ingredients to it and stir. If 400 grams of jam or preserves seems too much to you, you can add less—then the beverage will be less thick.

    The finished alcoholic sbiten turns out very rich, sweet, spicy, and thick. Therefore, I recommend diluting it a bit (for example, with boiling water). Serve it with mint leaves or cinnamon, whichever you prefer. Enjoy!
