Bring water with spices to a boil. Then add salt and continue boiling for another 3–4 minutes.

Cool the marinade and pour it over the washed herring, dried with paper towels.

Place a weight on top, for example a jar filled with water. Send the Baltic herring to the refrigerator for 1 day.
