Sugar glaze with starch
Description
Sugar glaze makes any baked treat tastier and sweeter—for example, a cake or cookies. With icing sugar at hand, it’s easy to make. By the way, you can make icing sugar at home too: grind ordinary sugar in a coffee grinder, a dedicated grinder, or a food processor. Serve cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients listed. Use odorless vegetable oil. Starch may be either corn or potato starch.
- 2
Step 2

Pour the confectioners’ sugar and starch into a deep container.
- 3
Step 3

Pour in the vegetable oil and 1 tbsp of milk of any fat content—you can even use soy or coconut milk. Start stirring gently. Do not add more milk until everything is blended, as the confectioners’ sugar will get wet and the mixture will turn runny.

Step 4

If the contents of the container are thick but stretchy, you do not need to add any more milk. If it is still a bit dry, pour in another 1 tbsp of milk and mix thoroughly.
- 5
Step 5

Pour the glaze into a sauce jug and spoon or brush it over the cooled bake. Bear in mind you need to let the glaze set for about 1–2 hours, or dry-set it on the bake in an oven at 80°C for roughly 20 minutes.
