Czech-style roasted pork knuckle in the oven

Description

The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Pork knuckle or ham hock is very popular in Europe, especially renowned in Germany and the Czech Republic. It's quite simple to prepare. Juicy, tender pork marinated in soy sauce, honey, and mustard makes an excellent meal for weekdays, and especially for festive occasions. Your guests will be delighted. The dish is ready to serve.

    Prepare the ingredients for preparing Czech-style pork knuckle.

    Wash the pork knuckle and dry it with a paper towel. Peel the garlic, wash it, and cut into 3-4 pieces. Using a sharp knife, make small incisions in the pork knuckle and insert the garlic pieces.

    Place the knuckle in a saucepan and pour in water to completely cover the meat. Add onion and carrot. Clean and wash the vegetables beforehand.

    Add the sliced apple and bay leaf.

    As well as peppercorns, dill, and salt.

    Bring the contents of the pot to a boil and skim off the foam. Then reduce the heat and simmer the pork knuckle until tender. This may take 2–2.5 hours.

    Remove the knuckle from the pot. Strain the broth; it can be used to prepare shchi, borscht, or any soup. However, it should be diluted with water so you don't end up eating pure cholesterol.

    Mix the liquid honey, soy sauce, and mustard in a small bowl.

    Place the knuckle on foil in a baking dish and generously coat with the prepared mixture.

    Place the knuckle in an oven preheated to 185–190 degrees and bake for 30–40 minutes. During baking, brush several times with a mixture of honey, soy sauce, and mustard.
