Poppy roll from yeast dough
Description
Homemade pastry for tea. This poppy roll made with yeast dough is best served with honey and milk. Although I'll be honest: sometimes I modernize this "childish" recipe by adding coffee liqueur to the poppy filling along with butter. Then the roll becomes more interesting and rich, perfect to enjoy with a cup of coffee and a friend. Give it a try—this pastry is definitely worth it. Serve warm or chilled. Ideal with tea.

Step 1

1. First, mix the yeast with sugar and pour warm water over it. Wait until bubbles appear: the starter is ready. Now add beaten eggs (beaten separately), a little softened butter, and milk. Add flour. Mix well. Let it sit for two hours in a warm place without drafts.

Step 2

2. When the dough has risen, knead it down and let it rest for another half hour. Meanwhile, prepare the filling: melt the remaining butter and mix in the soaked poppy seeds, then cook them in a pan for a while until the poppy seeds become soft. Next, roll out the dough into a flat sheet and spread the poppy seed filling over it.
