Radish Roses

Description

Perfect for the table and with drinks. For some reason, our homemakers seem to think there’s no need for this kind of kitchen fuss and that you can simply cut radish into matchsticks. Then those same homemakers wonder why their children, for example, won’t eat radish. Because you have to serve it the right way, my dears :) Try making radish roses—I’m sure no one will turn down radish served like this. The step-by-step description with photos is here to help you :) Serve with greens and sauce.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

    1. Well, actually, there’s nothing particularly difficult here. Wash the radishes and trim off the root ends.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

    2. Take a sharp knife. Trim the radish sides evenly so it is slightly closer to a square and sits steady, but don’t overdo it :)

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

    3. Now make cuts along the bottom edge of the radish, guiding the knife from top to bottom—these will form the lower petals.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

    4. Now remove the trimmings, and you can go ahead and toss them into the salad—they won’t be needed for anything else :)

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

    5. You should end up with something like this wonder

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

    6. From here on it's simple — make cuts and remove the excess, working your way around from bottom to top.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

    7. When you reach the upper petals, simply make small cuts carefully from top to bottom, as shown in the photo.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

    8. This is what your rose should look like. Immediately place it in cold water and refrigerate for 10–20 minutes.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

Voila! Take them out of the water, pat dry lightly — and they’re ready to serve! Our homemade radish roses are done! You can use them to garnish salads, side dishes, and even soups :) The simplest way is to serve them as an appetizer. Good luck!
