Roti Canai
Description
Delicious baked treat for the whole family. Every kitchen has a dish that's perfect for everyone. "Roti Canai" is probably one of them. This is a rustic Malaysian flatbread with relatives in India and Pakistan. I especially want to note that the flatbread bakes evenly and truly has a pleasant taste. From the specified amount of dough, I got 5-6 flatbreads like these. Serve cooled down or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Sift the flour into a bowl.
- 2
Step 2

Add a pinch of salt. Pour in a little water (room temperature) and start kneading the dough.
- 3
Step 3

At the end of kneading, add a little vegetable oil. Gather the dough into a ball, cover with a towel, and let it rest at room temperature for an hour.
- 4
Step 4

Divide the dough into several parts.
- 5
Step 5

Next, we will need a large surface. Lightly grease the countertop with oil. Place the dough on it. Brush the top of the dough with melted butter.
- 6
Step 6

With your fingers, stretch the dough into a pancake using circular motions from the center to the edges.
- 7
Step 7

Use your fingertips to stretch the dough in a circular motion. Gently lift the edges of the dough and pull it into a very thin sheet.
- 8
Step 8

Brush the resulting large, thin circle with butter.
- 9
Step 9

Fold the edges of the dough toward the center, shaping it into a circle or square, whichever is more convenient for you.
- 10
Step 10

On a dry skillet, toast the flatbread on both sides. The heat should not be too high, so that the flatbread has time to cook through and does not burn.
- 11
Step 11

Place the finished flatbreads on a plate and serve. Ideally, these flatbreads are served with curry sauce. However, in our regions, they can be served with sour cream or ketchup.
