Rolls
Description
Suitable for both special occasions and everyday meals. "Sake maki" is one of the simplest ways to make rolls with fresh raw salmon. These rolls are also among the most popular varieties—the kind most often ordered at sushi bars.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients according to the list.
- 2
Step 2

Transfer the rice to a pot, rinse it until the water runs clear, and add cold water in a 1:2 ratio. Cook covered over low heat for 15 minutes. The water should evaporate completely, and the rice should stay fluffy and separate.
- 3
Step 3

During this time, pour rice vinegar into a small bowl, add salt and sugar, and microwave for about 20 seconds. The vinegar will warm up during this time, and the sugar and salt crystals will dissolve.
- 4
Step 4

Pour the dressing into the rice, mix well, and let cool to room temperature.
- 5
Step 5

Place the seasoned rice on a nori sheet, and in the center place a slice of fresh salmon on top of it.
- 6
Step 6

Roll the nori with rice and salmon into a roll using a bamboo mat.
- 7
Step 7

Cut the roll with a sharp knife into serving-size slices and serve immediately with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and spicy wasabi sauce.
