Christmas gingerbread house
Description
Baking is simple and quick. The Christmas gingerbread house is a pastry worth the effort, but the result is worth it. This dessert is not only tasty and beautiful, it also creates a special festive atmosphere, and children will be thrilled. Such a house can stand for a very long time; over time it becomes softer and softer. When you finally decide to make this magic, first draw all the details and take precise measurements, otherwise the house will be crooked and you won’t be able to assemble it. Let the dough rest for at least 5 hours, preferably a whole night. That way it will soak up the aroma of spices and zest. So, I share it step by step; it can be served with tea or coffee.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Let's start preparing the dough. Mix honey, butter, and sugar in a deep bowl and place it over heat. Cook until the sugar and honey are completely dissolved.
- 2
Step 2

When everything has dissolved, remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
- 3
Step 3

Add all spices and seasonings, then stir.
- 4
Step 4

Pour everything into a deep bowl so that it's convenient to knead the dough. Add the egg and whisk everything with a whisk.
- 5
Step 5

Pour in the flour and knead the dough. Add the zest. At first the dough will seem too soft, but it will gradually become more elastic.
- 6
Step 6

In the end, we should get a nice smooth ball like this. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 5-6 hours.
- 7
Step 7

When the dough has rested well, you can start cutting out the pieces. I’ll demonstrate using the side pieces as an example; the rest follows the same method.
- 8
Step 8

From a rolled-out thin sheet of 0.5 cm, make house-shaped blanks. Place them in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 15–20 minutes.
- 9
Step 9

While the house pieces are baking, you need to prepare the icing. Beat the whites of two eggs with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- 10
Step 10

When the pieces are baked, you can glaze them right away, but it's better to do it after assembly. I had practice pieces, so I colored them right away.
- 11
Step 11

When all the other parts are baked, you can assemble the house. The walls and sides are glued together with icing, and then we install the roof. Decorate the house and place this beauty in the most prominent spot!
