Crescent rolls like in the USSR
Description
Perfect with tea and coffee. Today I suggest a nostalgic recipe for crescent rolls, exactly like the ones you used to find in any bakery. They have that very same taste, and they are very easy to make. A warning: they are so delicious, so increase the portion right away by 2–3 times. The step-by-step recipe explains in detail how to make them. You will succeed
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Pour water into a bowl for kneading dough, add salt and sugar, and dissolve the yeast.
- 3
Step 3

Add half of the flour and the softened butter, and mix.
- 4
Step 4

Add the remaining flour. Knead the dough.
- 5
Step 5

Knead the dough by hand for at least 5 minutes; it should become smooth and elastic.
- 6
Step 6

Grease a bowl with vegetable oil, place the dough in it, cover with plastic wrap, and leave it in a warm place for 1.5–2 hours.
- 7
Step 7

During fermentation, the dough should increase in size by about 2 times.
- 8
Step 8

Divide the finished dough into equal portions (I got 8 pieces of 67 grams each). Roll them into balls, cover with plastic wrap, and let them rest for 20 minutes.
- 9
Step 9

Roll out the dough into a thin flatbread, roll it into a tube, but not too tightly.
- 10
Step 10

Shape the piece into a crescent roll.
- 11
Step 11

Place the shaped bagels on a baking sheet, sprinkle with water; you can sprinkle them with poppy seeds or sesame seeds. Let the bagels proof for another 15 minutes. Right before baking, you can sprinkle them with water once more so that a crispy crust forms during baking. Bake the bagels at 180–200 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Step 12

The finished crescent rolls are wonderfully good, as if they were made especially for breakfast, though they’re also perfect for any snack.
