Wheat tortillas
Description
The recipe won’t take much time. For reference, Mexican wheat tortillas are round or oval flatbreads that form the base of Mexican national cuisine. Tortillas are used in all kinds of ways—they’re served almost like bread with nearly every local dish, they’re filled with all sorts of fillings, and they’re baked and fried. You can find a huge number of recipes that use these Mexican flatbreads, yet in stores tortillas are sold as something exotic and are quite expensive. It’s much cheaper to make them at home with just three ingredients. Here’s how :) Serve cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Put the butter, flour, and salt in the blender jug.
- 2
Step 2

Grind or process until the mixture has the consistency of fine crumbs.
- 3
Step 3

Add hot water to the flour (about 220 ml) and knead the dough. Kneading will take quite a while—7 to 9 minutes—until the dough no longer sticks to your hands.
- 4
Step 4

Divide the dough into small balls—with the quantities given you will get 8 balls. Cover these balls with a towel and leave to rest for about 10 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

Then roll each ball out very thinly—almost to translucency. At the same time, try to make the disk round.
- 6
Step 6

Place each flatbread one at a time on a preheated dry frying pan and cook until browned. As soon as the flatbread begins to blister, flip it and cook the other side.
- 7
Step 7

Fry the flatbread a little longer on the other side — and that’s it, the tortilla is ready :) Fry all the flatbreads the same way and stack them like pancakes. The tortillas are ready to use as intended :)
