
Gingerbread cookies
Description
Baking is quick and easy to make. Homemade spice cookies are very tasty and not difficult at all. “Zebra” spice cookies get their name from their unusual striped look, formed by layering two colours of dough. They turn out fragrant and soft, with a light airy texture. Neither kids nor grown-ups will say no to a treat like this. The ingredients are everyday basics found in almost any kitchen. Brighten up your tea time—and if you rope the children in, you can have fun doing it together. Spice cookies really are simple, enjoyable, and easy to bake.

Prepare all ingredients according to the list. Soften the butter in advance at room temperature.

In a deep bowl, combine soft butter and sugar.

Add sour cream, egg and 30 grams of flour.

Stir together.

Add the remaining flour in stages, and don’t forget to add aromatic spices.

Mix the dough with a spoon at first.

Then continue kneading by hand. The dough should be smooth and uniform.

Divide the dough into two parts. Add 15 grams of flour to one part.

Knead until smooth and even.

Add the same amount of cocoa to the other one.

Knead the dough until it is uniform in color.

Then divide each piece of dough into two roughly equal portions. Roll out each portion of dough into a rectangle. For the first layer, arrange the lighter piece of dough.

On top, place a rectangle of chocolate dough.

Repeat the layers one more time.

Now roll the dough into a roll.

Roll or stretch it lightly with your hands until it has an even thickness, then cut it into portion-sized pieces. Arrange on a baking tray greased with vegetable oil.

You can roll the pieces of dough between your hands to shape them into rounds. Bake at 160–170°C for about 25 minutes.

And at this point you could call the recipe done, but it will be much tastier with icing. I use the simplest kind: egg white, powdered sugar, and lemon juice. Beat the egg white and add the powdered sugar in batches until you get the consistency you want. At the end, add a few drops of lemon juice. You can drizzle the gingerbread with chocolate icing or simply with melted bar chocolate.
