Brandy-soaked cake soak
Description
Even a sponge cake that was baked a while ago and has slightly hardened can be saved with a brandy soak. This soak can also be used for other types of cake. It adds a pleasant tang and a delicate aroma. It's very quick and easy to prepare and can be used almost immediately. 1. Pour water into a saucepan, place it over heat, and bring to a boil. 2. Add granulated sugar, stir, and simmer for five minutes. 3. Remove the prepared sugar syrup from heat and cool to room temperature using cold water or ice. 4. Add brandy to the cooled syrup and mix well. The soak is ready and can be used immediately for sponge cake layers. The amount of sugar can be reduced if the frosting used for the cake layers is very sweet. In such cases, half the amount of sugar will be sufficient for the soak.
