Fig Jam
Description
Perfect for stocking up for winter. Figs are very rich in potassium, and they are also recommended for those who complain of stomach problems. They work well in both desserts and savory dishes. I invite you to enjoy fig jam, which is very easy to make. Figs pair wonderfully with nuts, so I recommend adding a little ground almond to the jam. Here is a simple recipe for fig jam: 1. Wash the figs and lemon. 2. Cut the figs and lemon into large pieces. Set aside some of the fig pieces (optional). Remove the seeds from the lemon. Leave the peel on. 3. Run the chopped fruit through a meat grinder. Do not grind the reserved fig pieces; keep them and add them during cooking. These pieces will show up in the jam later, giving it an extra tasty touch. 4. Put the puréed mixture and the fig pieces into an enameled pot. Add sugar and, if desired, chopped nuts. Place over low heat. 5. After the fig mixture comes to a boil, cook with constant stirring for 10 to 40 minutes. Cooking time depends on how thick you want the jam. 6. Pack the finished jam into sterilized jars and seal. Wrap and leave under a blanket until completely cool. Fig jam is ready. The jars keep for up to a year in a cool place.
