Portuguese Breakfast
Description
A delicious snack for any gathering. For breakfast in Portugal, it’s customary to serve sandwiches, toast, or any baked goods, and wash it all down with hot coffee. If you’re used to eating eggs for breakfast, you can order a sandwich with egg. With a breakfast like this, you definitely won’t go hungry. I suggest making a Portuguese breakfast for everyone who loves egg dishes in the morning — a sandwich with egg, cheese, and sausage. It’s very easy to make, literally in 5 minutes, and it turns out both hearty and very tasty! The egg gives the sandwich juiciness, even though it’s made without any sauce, and the cheese and sausage make it filling. Paired with golden, crispy bread, it’s incredibly delicious. Be sure to try it. Serve with herbs and sauce.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients.

Step 2

In a frying pan, melt a piece of butter (the heat should be low). Break an egg and immediately use a spatula to carefully spread the egg across the pan so that the yolk spreads out as well. Bring the surface area of the egg pancake to the size of the two slices of bread you will use for the rest of the recipe. Season the egg with salt and pepper and sprinkle with chopped herbs.

Step 3

Sprinkle the egg with grated cheese.
- 4
Step 4

Place two pieces of bread on top. Side by side, but with some space between them. Press the bread down with a spatula and let the cheese melt.

Step 5

Then, using a spatula, carefully flip the bread so that it ends up in the pan with the egg on top. You can sprinkle the egg with grated cheese again, then add any filling. I used boiled sausage, but it can be bacon, ham, sausages, vegetables, etc.

Step 6

Let the bread brown a little, then fold the sandwich in half.

Step 7

Portuguese breakfast is ready. Serve hot. For easier eating, you can cut the sandwich in half.
