Prepare all the ingredients.

Place the pepper, cloves, and dill umbrella on the bottom of a clean sterilized jar.

Wash the tomatoes and pat them dry. Place them in the jar.

Pour boiling water into the jar, cover with a lid, and let stand for 15 minutes.

Drain the water from the jar, add sugar, salt, and citric acid. Bring to a boil and simmer the marinade for 2–3 minutes.

Pour the hot marinade back into the jar. Seal the lid tightly. Turn the jar upside down, wrap it in a towel, and leave it that way until it has cooled completely.
