
Braided Cherry Pie
Description
One of the best cherry desserts is pies. Of course, the choice is huge and the dough comes in many types. Then there’s the filling. Thanks to it, you can bake these pies year-round. After all, cherries can be fresh, frozen, dried, or even in the form of jam. The process is not complicated. The main thing is to make the yeast dough properly. In the end you’ll get a delicious, fluffy, fragrant pie. You can achieve a woven effect with a special roller or by making cuts in the dough that imitate a small grid.

Prepare the ingredients for making the pie.

Prepare the pastry for the pie. Crumble compressed fresh yeast into a bowl.

Pour warm milk and add 1 tablespoon of sugar.

After 10 minutes, the yeast will foam.

Place the egg in a bowl.

Add melted butter that has cooled slightly.

Add another 4 tablespoons of sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt, and gradually add sifted flour.

Knead a soft, elastic dough.

Cover the bowl of dough with plastic wrap and put it in a warm place. After one to one and a half hours, it will have risen considerably in volume.

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Put the pitted cherries (I used frozen) into a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Add sugar to taste. Place the saucepan on the stove and heat gently until the sugar dissolves.

Dissolve one teaspoon of cornstarch in 50 ml of water and stir it into the cherries. Stirring constantly, cook the cherries until thickened. The pie filling is ready.

From the given amount of ingredients you get two pies. Divide the dough into 4 parts. Roll one part into a rectangular or round sheet. Spread the filling on it.

Roll out the second portion of dough as well, then use a special rolling pin or a knife to cut slits. That way you will get a woven effect.

Let the pie rest in warmth for another 25–30 minutes. During this time the dough will rise slightly again. Brush with beaten egg.

Bake the pie in an oven preheated to 180°C for 45–50 minutes. Baking time depends on your oven.
