Apple and cabbage buns
Description
The baking is simple and quick. I make apple and cabbage pies when guests are coming or on weekends, when all family members happily snack on these pies. The recipe for apple and cabbage pies is very easy and consists of several basic steps. First, we'll prepare the filling, then make the dough. Let's begin. 1. First, shred white cabbage. Salt it, knead with your hands, and once it releases juice, mix it with sauerkraut. 2. Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes. 3. Mix the apples with the cabbage, season with pepper, and add a bay leaf. Transfer the mixture into a cauldron or a thick-bottomed pot. Simmer until cooked. 4. After 5–7 minutes of simmering, remove the bay leaf, otherwise the filling will turn out bitter. 5. Dilute tomato paste in boiling water and add it to the pot with the cabbage. Stir. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Now let's prepare the dough. 6. Dissolve sugar, two tablespoons of flour, and dry yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for 15–20 minutes. 7. As soon as bubbles appear on the surface, add melted butter and salt. 8. Beat the eggs, set aside a little for brushing the pies, and add the rest to the dough. 9. I recommend sifting the flour. Add flour to the other ingredients and knead into an elastic dough. 10. Cover the dough with a lid or a towel and let it rise for an hour, until it doubles in size. 11. Then knead the dough again and start shaping the pies. 12. Shape the pies as usual. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rest for 25–30 minutes. 13. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). It will be ready by the time the pies finish resting. 14. Brush the apple and cabbage pies with the reserved beaten egg and bake for 30–40 minutes. Enjoy your meal! Good luck with your cooking. The baking is ready. Serve it at the table.
