Pastries with jam
Description
Delicious baked goods for the whole family. For me, jam-filled buns are the taste of childhood. As a child, I spent every summer at my grandmother’s in the village, and buns like these with jam were her, so to speak, signature treat. Of course, there’s nothing fancy about these buns—they’re the most ordinary, even slightly primitive buns, but… They’re tastier than any delicacies from lavish pastry shops :) Soft, fluffy, fresh from the oven, with a glass of homemade milk… ah, to be ten again :) Serve cooled or slightly warm.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Add warm milk, eggs and egg yolk, vanilla, and vegetable oil. Knead a smooth dough by hand until it no longer sticks to your hands.
- 2
Step 2

Cover the bowl of dough with plastic wrap and let rest for 1 hour at room temperature.
- 3
Step 3

Turn the risen dough out onto a flour-dusted surface and roll it into a sheet approximately 35 by 42 cm.
- 4
Step 4

Cut the dough into 30 squares about 7 cm on each side.
- 5
Step 5

With your finger, make a small indentation in the center of each square. Place about 1 tsp. of jam in each indentation.
- 6
Step 6

Carefully fold each square in half.
- 7
Step 7

Pinch the seams firmly with your fingers.
- 8
Step 8

Using a brush, brush each pastry with vegetable oil.
- 9
Step 9

Place the pies in a generously oiled baking dish, seam side down. You can place them close together, since they’ve been coated with vegetable oil and won’t stick to each other.
- 10
Step 10

When all the pastries have been placed in the baking dish, do not put them in the oven right away — first cover them with a towel and let them rest for 20 minutes at room temperature. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 175°C.
- 11
Step 11

Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- 12
Step 12

Sprinkle the finished pies with powdered sugar and serve.
