Strawberry hand pies made with yeast dough, baked in the oven

Description

For the pies you can use your favorite dough; I especially like this version with baking powder added. Choose ripe but firm strawberries for the pies. If the berries are very juicy, increase the amount of starch, and to keep the filling from running, add the sugar right before shaping each pie. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

    Prepare all the necessary ingredients for making strawberry pies with yeast dough. Sort the strawberries, rinse them, let them dry, and remove the green stems.

    Pour warm water into a bowl, add salt, sugar, and the yeast. Crack an egg into the bowl and mix until smooth.

    Pour in the vegetable oil and stir.

    Add baking powder to the flour, sift it, and add it to the yeast mixture in portions. Knead a soft, non-sticky dough, shape it into a ball, and place it in a deep bowl greased with oil.

    Cover the bowl of dough and place it in a warm place for 50–60 minutes to rise.

    Cut the prepared strawberries into pieces and mix with cornstarch.

    Transfer the dough to a floured work surface, divide it into pieces, and shape into balls. Cover them and let stand for 15 minutes. From the balls, form flat cakes, spread the filling, and sprinkle with sugar.

    Shape the pies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and greased with vegetable oil. Cover the baking sheet and let stand in a warm place for 10–15 minutes to rise. Brush the tops of the pies with milk.

    Place the baking sheet with the pies in a hot oven and bake for 20–25 minutes until done and golden brown. Brush the finished pies with butter, cover, and let rest for 5–10 minutes so they can relax.
