Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Add salt, sugar, and baking powder to the sifted flour, and mix.
- 3
Step 3

Add the chilled butter, cut into cubes, to the flour.
- 4
Step 4

Rub the butter with the flour into crumbs, add ice water and 1 tsp lemon juice, and replace the dough.
- 5
Step 5

Place the dough in a bag and let it rest for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- 6
Step 6

Peel the apples and cut them into large wedges, drizzle with lemon juice so they don’t darken.
- 7
Step 7

Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the apples.
- 8
Step 8

Prepare the topping by mixing sour cream, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of starch, and add a packet of vanilla sugar.
- 9
Step 9

You can add 1 tablespoon of rum for aroma and flavor; the ingredient is optional, but it will give the glaze an exquisite taste.
- 10
Step 10

Place the dough in the pan, (in this recipe a 20 cm diameter pan was used). Do not grease the pan, as the dough is butter‑based. Form high edges and prick the bottom with a fork.
- 11
Step 11

Arrange the apple wedges in the dish.
- 12
Step 12

Pour the sour cream topping.
- 13
Step 13

Bake the pie for 50 minutes at 180 °C, monitoring the oven and the pie’s doneness, depending on how your oven performs.
- 14
Step 14

Cool the pie to room temperature, then remove it from the pan.
- 15
Step 15

Before serving, dust the cake with powdered sugar.
- 16
Step 16

The pie turned out simply extraordinary, with a crumbly shortcrust pastry, a delicate vanilla flavor of the filling combined with the taste of apples. Not a pie, but bliss!
