You can use not only frozen but also fresh ripe cherries or cherries. Additionally, you can make this cake with blueberries or blackcurrants, increasing the amount of sugar syrup for a sweeter taste.

1. Prepare the starter: mix water with the starter culture, stir well. Add sifted flour and mix again thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature for 8 hours.

2. Place the starter into the bowl of a stand mixer, add room-temperature milk, soft butter, sugar, and salt. Add the sifted flour and knead the dough on speed 2 for 5–7 minutes.

3. Place the dough into a bowl greased with vegetable oil, gather the edges toward the center, flip it over, smooth the surface, and cover with plastic wrap. Let it sit at room temperature for 3 hours.

4. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper and grease it with oil. Roll out the dough on the parchment to cover the entire surface of the baking sheet. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 1 hour.

5. Thaw the cherries and evenly distribute them over the dough, pressing down slightly. Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 25 minutes. Prepare the sugar syrup: mix sugar with water, stir, and place over heat.

6. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, then remove the mixture from heat. Pour the hot syrup over the cake and return it to the oven for 10 minutes. Sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar.
