
Beef and Kidney Pie

Delicious baked treat for the whole family. Recipe for making an English pie. Serve warm or chilled. Perfect with tea.

Step 1

Cut the kidneys in half lengthwise, remove the ducts and fatty layers. Place the kidneys in a bowl, cover with cold water, and let stand for 2 hours, changing the water periodically. Then rinse under warm water. Cut the kidneys and beef into small pieces, coat with flour, and set aside.

Wash the potatoes, peel and slice into half-circles. Fry in heated vegetable oil for 10 minutes. Transfer the potatoes to a round baking dish.

Cut the bacon into small pieces. Peel the onion and slice it into half-rings. In a clean frying pan, fry the bacon and onion in heated butter for 5 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to the potato dish.

Add the kidneys and beef to the same skillet. Fry, stirring, for 6 minutes. Pour in the milk, bring to a boil and cook for 4 minutes. Add the mashed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, mix well and transfer to a baking dish.

Mix the sifted flour with butter, dried thyme, and milk. Knead the dough.

Roll out the dough into a 1 cm thick sheet. Line the baking dish with it, folding the edges inward. Brush the dough with lightly beaten egg. Place in a preheated oven at 220°C for 25 minutes. Serve hot.
