
Pie with canned fish on puff pastry

Chop the peeled onion into small cubes and place in a heated pan with vegetable oil. Fry over high heat until golden brown.

Add the pre-cooked rice to the frying pan and mix it with the sautéed onion.

Drain the liquid from the canned peas, and add the peas to the pan with the rice.

Drain a bit of the liquid from the canned fish, mash the fish with a fork until smooth, then add it to the rice in the frying pan. Mix everything well, add salt and pepper to taste, and optionally include some dried aromatic herbs. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the pie filling cool down.

Now it's time to work with the dough. Divide the puff pastry into two parts (a larger one—about 2/3, and a smaller one). From the smaller part, press out small circles—the scales for the fish pie. Roll out the larger part of the dough thinly.

Place the filling in the center of the dough layer, then lift the edges toward the center, forming a slightly open pie. Shape the fish's face and tail.

Place the dough circles on top of the filling in an overlapping, fish-scale pattern, and put the pie in a preheated oven at 180 degrees. Bake for about 40 minutes, until the dough is nicely golden brown.
