
Pizza
Description
The dough is easy and quick to make. New York–style pizza is a thin-crust pizza topped with a spicy tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Traditionally it is made large and cut into 8 slices. Be sure to try making pizza using this recipe. Serve cooled or slightly warm.

Prepare all the ingredients according to the list. For the filling you can use whatever you like; today I’m making a cheese pizza.

Add 1/2 tsp sugar and yeast to warm water. Mix and let stand for 10 minutes.

Then add 1 tsp salt and flour, and mix.

Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Mix everything once more with a spoon, then continue kneading with your hands. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky. Rub your hands with vegetable oil, gather the dough into a ball, cover the bowl with a towel, and leave it in a warm place to rise, for about an hour to an hour and a half.

To make New York–style pizza sauce, crush the canned tomatoes together with their juice. It is best to mash the tomatoes by hand so that small pieces remain. As a last resort, you can pulse them briefly in a blender, but not until they become a smooth purée. I remove the skins.

Pour 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into a saucepan or skillet. Add minced garlic, oregano, and basil; you can add ground chili pepper and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 1–2 minutes.

Add the crushed tomatoes and 1/2 tsp sugar. As soon as the sauce comes to a boil, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and simmer for about 20–30 minutes. If needed, add salt to taste; I did not add any.

Reduce the sauce until it reaches the desired thickness.

The finished dough should nearly double in volume.

The dough must be punched down.

From the pizza dough, on a work surface dusted with flour, roll out a circle about 30 cm in diameter and about 5–6 mm thick. Transfer to a baking sheet and shape the rim with your hands; prick the bottom with a fork.

Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the pizza base, leaving the edges bare.

Sprinkle grated cheese on top. If you wish, you can garnish New York pizza with extra ingredients to taste.

Bake the New York pizza in an oven thoroughly preheated to 250 degrees for 7 to 10 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the crust is airy and golden brown.

The “New York” pizza is ready. Cut the pizza into pieces and serve right away. If you like, you can garnish the New York pizza with basil leaves before serving.
