Description

Perfect with tea and coffee. Shortbread cookies with blackberries and whipped cream are simple and, importantly, versatile homemade baking. The ingredients for the cookies themselves are in almost every pantry, while a berry sauce made the same way can use any fresh berries. So don't skip it—give it a try; you won't regret it. The bake is ready. Serve at the table.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients for the dough — flour, baking powder, 3 tbsp. sugar, 1 tbsp. lemon zest, and nutmeg.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

Add cubes of room-temperature butter. Rub into crumbs.

Carefully begin mixing the dough with a fork.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

Knead the dough until it reaches roughly the same consistency as in the photo. You don't need to achieve a perfectly smooth consistency, but large lumps are also undesirable.

    Step 6

From the resulting dough, shape fairly large balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Sprinkle sugar on top of the cookies.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

Bake for 20–25 minutes at 190°C until golden brown and the crust is firm and crisp.

    Step 9

    Step 9

While the cookies are baking, let's make the berry sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the berries, 1 tbsp. lemon zest, water, 3 tbsp. sugar, and salt. If you like, add a few drops of lemon juice. Stir and cook over medium heat.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

Cook until you reach the desired consistency. Some people like the berries to stay whole but already release their juice; others prefer the berries to break down into a purée. Make it the way you like best.
