Step 1

1. Working with the dough is quite simple. First, beat softened butter with sugar (preferably using a mixer). Add egg yolks and grated zest of one medium lemon. Mix thoroughly until smooth. Squeeze juice from half a lemon and add it to the dough. For the "Apple" cookie recipe, you can also use vanilla or almond essence.

Step 2

2. Combine flour with baking powder and starch. Sift and add to the dough in small portions. Knead a firm dough that does not stick to hands.

Step 3

3. Now the dough needs to "rest" in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes. To prevent it from drying out, wrap it in plastic wrap or place it in a plastic bag.

Step 4

4. Pour sugar into a small bowl. Pinch off a small piece of dough and shape it into an apple. This is a creative and fun process. Homemade "Apple" cookies should not be perfectly even—quite the opposite. To finish shaping, use a clove to imitate the stem. Roll the finished apple in sugar.

Step 5

5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the cookies on it. Put them in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes, depending on the temperature and size of the cookies. Serve the finished apple-shaped cookies garnished with a mint leaf.
