We'll prepare the sponge. Sift 4 tablespoons of flour with yeast into a deep container. Pour in warm water. Mix very thoroughly for about 10 minutes. Cover with a towel and place in a warm spot for 30 minutes.

Beat the eggs into a deep plate, add salt. Mix thoroughly.

Mix the remaining flour with saffron, sugar, and vanilla.

Make a well in the flour and pour in the risen sponge and the eggs.

Start mixing thoroughly, adding room-temperature margarine in portions. After all the margarine has been incorporated, continue mixing for another 15 minutes.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.

Remove the dough from the refrigerator and knead it very thoroughly. Now add the raisins (previously rolled in flour). Mix well.

Line the baking pans with parchment paper. Place the dough into the pans, filling them one-third full. Cover with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled, about 35 minutes.

Place the kuliches in a preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the temperature by half. Bake for at least another 25 minutes. Check for doneness with a wooden skewer. If the skewer comes out dry from the kulich, it's done! Remove the kuliches from the molds and place them on a towel to cool.

Decorate the kulich with icing and sprinkles.
