Prepare all the ingredients.

Wash the cucumbers and soak them in cold water for 6–8 hours.

Slice the onion into thin rings. Peel the garlic and slice into thin slices.

Place the onion and garlic in a clean, pre-sterilized jar. Add the bay leaf.

Trim the ends off the cucumbers, then pack them tightly into the jar.

Pour boiling water into the jar, cover with the lid, and let stand for 20 minutes.

Drain the water into a saucepan, add the sugar and salt. Bring to a boil. Pour in the vinegar and remove from the heat.

Pour the hot marinade into the jar with the cucumbers, seal the lid. Turn the jar upside down. Leave it that way until completely cooled, then you can store it in a cool place for long-term storage.
