Description
The pastry is simple and quick to prepare. Monkey bread is a type of American pastry made up of many small balls coated in butter and sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar, and nuts. The idea behind monkey bread is that each little ball can easily be pulled off with fingers. Serve warm or cooled. Perfect with tea.

1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees with the rack in the lower third. Place 4 tablespoons of butter and maple syrup in a small bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, until fully melted, stir, and set aside. In another small bowl, mix together 1/3 cup sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside.

2. In a food processor, combine flour, baking powder, the remaining 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and salt. Cut the remaining butter into small pieces and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk and mix. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Shape into a 25 cm disk.

3. Cut the dough into 16 equal pieces. Roll into balls.

4. Dip each ball into the maple syrup and butter mixture, then roll in the sugar and cinnamon mixture.

5. Place 5-6 balls into each section of the mold and gently press down.

6. Bake until golden, 15-17 minutes. Cover the pan with foil if the tops are browning too quickly.

7. Place the bread on a rack and let it cool for 10 minutes. Then remove it from the mold. Mix powdered sugar with milk.
