
New Year's appetizer with cheese and potatoes
Description
This appetizer is quick and easy to make. This New Year’s potato-and-cheese appetizer is sure to please Slavs and everyone who loves potatoes! You can also make a great cold pie from this appetizer. Instead of a mix of heavy cream and milk, you can use light cream. And you can replace Parmesan with another cheese you like.

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Grease a baking pan or muffin tins with vegetable oil or butter. You will need 10–12 of them. Peel the onion and garlic and dice them into small cubes.

2. Place the chopped onion and garlic in a large bowl. Add the milk, cream, 1 cup (half) grated Parmesan, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix well.

3. Peel the potatoes, rinse them, and slice into thin slices. It is very convenient to do this with a food processor fitted with a grater-mandoline attachment.

4. Place the potato slices in greased molds. Make sure the potato does not stick out above the rim of the mold. Add two tablespoons of the cream and grated cheese mixture to each mold!

5. Cover the potato dish with foil and bake in a hot oven for 35 minutes. Then remove the foil, spread the remaining half of the Parmesan, and bake for another 15 minutes. The liquid should be absorbed and the cheesy top should brown. You can place a thyme sprig brushed with olive oil on top.

6. Let the baked potatoes cool in the mold for 5 minutes, then carefully transfer them to a serving platter. If you did not add thyme, you can do so now.
