The dough comes out fluffy and very tender, and it's a pleasure to work with. Baked in the shape of the coming year's zodiac animal, it will delight adults and children alike. Be sure to make it: the preparation is completely straightforward, and you end up with an incredibly delicious and original pie.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all ingredients.
- 2
Step 2

Combine warm milk, vegetable oil, sugar, salt, egg, and yeast. Mix and let stand for 10 minutes.
- 3
Step 3

Then gradually add the flour.
- 4
Step 4

I usually use 350–400 grams, but you may need a little less or a little more.
- 5
Step 5

The finished dough should be slightly sticky, yet soft and pliable. Shape it into a ball, brush with vegetable oil, cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and leave in a warm place for about 1.5 hours.
- 6
Step 6

The dough should nearly double in size.
- 7
Step 7

The risen dough should be punched down and allowed to rise again for about an hour.
- 8
Step 8

At this time, prepare the filling. The filling can be absolutely anything to your taste. The dough is universal and will go with everything. I braised cabbage. You can braise cabbage with vegetables, mushrooms, or ground meat.
- 9
Step 9

Roll the dough into a sheet, approximately as shown in the photo. One side should be slightly wider than the other. The thickness of the dough will depend on how fluffy you want the baked goods to be, and the length of the rolled-out sheet on how large a snake-shaped pastry you want. The dough is pliable and very easy to work with.
- 10
Step 10

Place the filling in the center.
- 11
Step 11

Lift the edges and pinch them closed in any convenient way.
- 12
Step 12

Turn the roll seam-side down and gently stretch it with your hands. Place it on an oiled baking sheet and shape the body and head. You can try making shallow cuts with a knife to imitate skin. Cover the shaped dough with a towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- 13
Step 13

Then brush with egg yolk and bake in the oven at 180°C for about 30 minutes. Adjust according to your oven.
- 14
Step 14

Remove the finished pie from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
- 15
Step 15

Before serving, you can garnish the pie with fresh herbs. I also made eyes from olives and cut out a tongue from bell pepper. The "Snake" pie for New Year 2025 is ready.
