Instructions

Step 1

1. First of all, you need to prepare the dough. To do this, separate one egg yolk (it will be used to brush the pie) and then beat the eggs. Add softened butter and sour cream. Then gradually add the flour sifted with salt and knead the dough.

Step 2

2. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap or cover it. Refrigerate for about 25 minutes.

Step 3

3. About this amount of time will be needed to prepare the filling. First, boil the eggs, then cool and peel them. This simple recipe for a tender cabbage pie can also be supplemented with boiled carrots or rice, for example. Finely chop the cabbage and place it in a frying pan with vegetable oil. Add sugar, a pinch of salt, and milk. Cook over low heat for 10–15 minutes, until the cabbage becomes soft.

Step 4

4. Cool the cabbage to room temperature, then wash and chop the herbs to taste, and dice the egg into small cubes.

Step 5

5. Divide the dough into two parts and roll each part out to fit the size of your baking pan. Place one part of the dough into a greased pan or one lined with parchment paper. Mix the filling ingredients and spread them over the dough.

Step 6

6. Cover with the second sheet of dough, sealing the edges well. To prevent the cabbage pie from becoming moist inside, make a small hole on top to allow steam to escape. Brush the top of the pie with beaten egg yolk.

Step 7

7. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 35–40 minutes, checking occasionally for doneness and browning of the crust. That's the whole simple recipe for a delicate cabbage pie. After baking, let it cool slightly, then cut into portion-sized pieces.
