Description

Perfectly pairs with tea and coffee. Recipe for homemade Indian bread (Naan). Can be served with tea or coffee.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

Mix all the dry ingredients well.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

Warm the yogurt separately first, let it stand for 10–15 minutes, then warm the milk and mix it with the yogurt.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

In the center of the dry ingredients, make a well and pour in half of the milk mixture. Mix gently, gradually adding the milk and yogurt.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

When kneading the dough, grease your hands and the spoon with oil. This will prevent the dough from sticking.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

Now cover the dough with a damp towel and let it rest for 2 hours.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

After two hours, sprinkle a little flour on the work surface and place the dough on it. Knead for two minutes, then shape into a small round ball—it will be easier to divide into equal parts.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Divide the dough into 8 parts, sprinkle the work surface with flour, and roll the dough into elongated shapes, but not thin.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

Brush one side with water. You can also add spices to your taste (garlic, paprika, etc.—feel free to get creative with your choices).

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

Preheat a skillet over medium heat (preferably use cast iron). Place the naan, oiled side down, and cook for 30-60 seconds. Then try to flip it; if it doesn't come off easily, let the bread cook for another 15 seconds and try again. There's also another method for cooking the second side, which I'll describe in the next step.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

To achieve authentic flavor and appearance, naan should be cooked over an open flame. A gas stove works well for this. Ideally, at home, you can cook one side on a skillet and the other over the flame. Using kitchen tongs, take the bread and hold it over the fire for 30 seconds, constantly rotating. If you can't do this, don't worry—naan cooked entirely on a skillet is also very delicious.

  11. 11

    Step 11

    Step 11

After cooking, spread the bread with butter and serve.
