French-style meat in the microwave
Description
This recipe won't take much time. Usually, we always cook "meat à la française" in the oven on a baking tray—meaning for a large group. But if you'd like to prepare this dish for 1-2 people, there's no need to heat up the oven. A microwave will handle it just fine. I'll share my microwave meat recipe with you, and you can decide whether it deserves a place in your kitchen or not :) 1. Cut the meat into thin strips, no thicker than 1 cm. 2. Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly (about 0.5 cm). 3. Peel the onion and slice it thinly as well. 4. Place the meat in a microwave-safe dish with high sides, forming the bottom layer. Season with salt and pepper. 5. Add the onion on top of the meat, then the potatoes. Season again with salt and pepper. Keep in mind that mayonnaise will add saltiness, so go easy on the salt. 6. Spread mayonnaise over the top layer (potatoes). 7. Grate cheese coarsely and sprinkle it over the top. 8. Cover with a lid (remember to use only microwave-safe dishes!) and cook at 800 watts for 20 minutes. 9. Once the time is up, check the potatoes for doneness. If they're not fully cooked, add a couple more minutes. 10. When the potatoes are done, remove the lid and place the dish back in the microwave for a couple more minutes to lightly brown the cheese. The fat might splatter a bit, but that's nothing to worry about—this way, the dish will look nice and taste delicious! Serve hot with any vegetables, fresh or canned.
