Step 1

1. First, pay attention to the meat. In this case, beef is used in this simple oven-baked French-style meat recipe with mushrooms, but you can also use fattier pork. Wash, dry, cut into small pieces, and lightly tenderize on both sides.

Step 2

2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet and add the meat pieces. Sear over high heat on both sides until a crust forms, then immediately season with salt and pepper on all sides right in the skillet. Add spices at this stage if desired.

Step 3

3. Slice the washed and dried mushrooms into not too thin slices and place them in a single layer at the bottom of a heatproof dish. Lightly salt the top.

Step 4

4. Traditionally, chicken Kiev in the oven with mushrooms is prepared with onions, but in this case, onions are not used. If desired, you can slice an onion into thin half-rings and place it on top of the mushrooms. Transfer the fried meat to the baking dish and pour over the oil in which it was fried (since we did not grease the dish).

Step 5

5. Lightly spread mayonnaise or sour cream in a thin layer. All that's left is to grate the cheese and sprinkle it on top. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake until golden brown, about 1 hour. I hope you'll enjoy this version of French-style baked meat with mushrooms.
