Beef Stroganoff with sour cream
Description
Experienced home cooks know that it's entirely possible to prepare French-style meat with sour cream at home, and the dish will turn out just as good as the original. You can use not only beef, as in this case, but also more traditional pork or even chicken fillet.
Instructions

Step 1

1. Wash and dry the meat. Cut into small pieces and, if necessary, lightly tenderize. Pork is juicier for this dish, but beef or veal is less fatty. So you can choose the meat according to your preference.

Step 2

2. Lightly grease the bottom of a heatproof dish with vegetable oil and place the meat inside. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and add spices. This recipe for French-style meat with sour cream includes paprika, oregano and marjoram, coriander, and nutmeg, although you can use other spices to suit your taste.

Step 3

3. Place the washed and sliced tomatoes on top. Traditionally, an onion is also added, but this ingredient can be omitted.

Step 4

4. Wash the potatoes, peel them, and slice thinly (large potato pieces may take a long time to cook through). Place in a baking dish, season with salt and add spices to taste.

Step 5

5. Lightly spread with sour cream. If desired, you can enhance the homemade French-style meat with sour cream by adding garlic pressed through a garlic press. It can be added to the meat or potatoes, or mixed into the sour cream.

Step 6

6. Grate the cheese and sprinkle it generously on top. The more cheese you use, the tastier the crust will be.

Step 7

7. Place the dish in the oven for at least 35–40 minutes (keep in mind that beef takes slightly longer to cook than pork). Check doneness with a knife, and make sure the cheese crust doesn't burn.
