French-style meat without an oven
Description
Hearty and delicious French-style meat cooked at home without an oven is just as tasty as the classic version. In this case, you can use not only tomatoes but also mushrooms and other vegetables to taste. If the meat is not fatty enough, you can add a little water or broth to the pan during cooking.
Instructions

Step 1

1. Wash the pork—the meat to be used in this case—and lightly tenderize it. The meat should not be very thin, so that it does not become dry.
- 2
Step 2

2. Pour a little vegetable oil into a frying pan and add the meat. Sear over high heat on both sides until a crust forms. Season with salt and pepper to taste during cooking. You can also use veal, for example, in this stove-top French-style meat recipe.

Step 3

3. Meanwhile, peel the onion and slice it into thin half-rings. Place it on top of the meat and lightly salt if desired. When adding the ingredients, reduce the heat to a minimum.
- 4
Step 4

4. Slice the washed tomatoes thinly and place them on top. Tomato sauce can be used optionally.
- 5
Step 5

5. Generously spread with mayonnaise (you can also use sour cream). If desired, add a little mustard for a more piquant flavor or a couple of slices of pickled cucumber, for example.
- 6
Step 6

6. Next, add the peeled and thinly sliced potatoes, seasoning them with salt to taste. If desired, you can also add some spices.
- 7
Step 7

7. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.

Step 8

8. To ensure the French-style meat is properly cooked without an oven at home, cover the pan with a lid. Simmer over low heat for at least 40–45 minutes. Then check for doneness by piercing with a knife.

Step 9

9. When the meat and potatoes become tender, remove the skillet from the heat and serve the dish.
