Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Thaw the pollock if you bought it frozen. Carefully remove the scales and innards from the fish, then rinse it thoroughly inside and out. Peel the onion and rinse it as well. Optionally, you can add a couple of garlic cloves if you enjoy their aroma in the dish.

Step 2

Cut the fish into portion pieces, and be sure to trim off all fins and the tail with scissors, as they will only take up space in the pan.
- 3
Step 3

Preheat the skillet on the stove, adding vegetable oil to it. Choose a pan with high sides, as the hake will be simmered in mayonnaise sauce.
- 4
Step 4

Fry the fish slices for 4-5 minutes on each side until a golden crust forms. You can fry them on all sides—however you prefer.
- 5
Step 5

Chop the onion into small cubes or slices and add it to the container with the fish. Be sure to mix well so that it ends up at the bottom, then sauté for another 3-4 minutes until soft.
- 6
Step 6

Spread mayonnaise of any fat content; you can even use vegan mayonnaise made from sunflower seeds.
- 7
Step 7

Add salt and ground black pepper, then pour in hot water. At this stage, you can add pressed garlic or substitute it with dried ground garlic, as well as other spices and seasonings.
- 8
Step 8

Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the heat to moderate. Simmer the pollock in mayonnaise under the lid for about 5-6 minutes. Do not overcook the fish, as it is already fully cooked. The main goal is to impart a delicate flavor. The mayonnaise will naturally blend into the liquid, creating a delicious sauce. If you like fresh herbs, now is the perfect time to add them chopped: dill, parsley, cilantro, etc.

Step 9

Place the pieces of pollock on a plate and pour the sauce over them. Serve with bread, lavash, or ciabatta. Enjoy your meal!
