Mussels in the microwave
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Buy mussels closed, either fresh or frozen. If the shells are open, such seafood is no longer suitable for eating. The larger the shell, the bigger the mollusk inside and the longer they will need to be cooked. But don't worry, cooking time is at most 5–8 minutes. Serve boiled mussels hot with various sauces, toasts, or croutons.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Wash the purchased mussels thoroughly under water using the rough side of a sponge to remove sand and dirt. Rinse once again after washing, and discard any open or cracked mussels.
- 2
Step 2

Place them in a tall glass or ceramic container. The container must have high sides, as the liquid will boil in it.
- 3
Step 3

Add salt and peppercorns. Instead of salt, you can use fish seasoning, which will make the mussels taste even more flavorful!
- 4
Step 4

Add bay leaves or other spices and seasonings to your taste. The main thing is to use a little so as not to overdo it. You can finely chop fresh herbs and add them to the container.
- 5
Step 5

Pour boiling water into the container so that it covers the mussels. Remember, do not overcrowd them—do not fill the container completely, as they will open during cooking and the volume will double.
- 6
Step 6

Place the container in the microwave and turn it on for 3 minutes. After the specified time, pour boiling water over the mussels—they should start to open. This is approximately the halfway point of the cooking process, and it's important to check them at this stage. If the water isn't spilling over the edges and the mussels have begun to open, activate the microwave for another 3–4 minutes to finish cooking the seafood.

Step 7

Then, carefully transfer them to a bowl or salad dish using a slotted spoon, let cool for 2–3 minutes, and remove one side of the shell, arranging them on a serving plate. Serve warm, accompanied by garlic sauce, mayonnaise, cheese sauce, etc. If desired, you can drizzle them with lemon or lime juice. Enjoy your meal!
