Boiled mussels
Description
Boiled mussels make a perfect snack for gatherings with family or friends. They take only 10-15 minutes to prepare. You don't even need to thaw them—just add the frozen mussels directly to boiling water. Keep in mind that seafood should be cooked no longer than 5-6 minutes, otherwise they will turn out tough.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Rinse the mussels in water, removing small shell fragments. You can also buy mussels without shells, as per your preference.
- 2
Step 2

Place them in a saucepan, cauldron, or pot. Add lemon slices and bay leaves to the container. You can use a quarter of a citrus fruit to make it easier to remove later. Add salt and ground black pepper.

Step 3

Pour in boiling water and place the container on the stove. Bring the liquid to a boil and cook for approximately 3-5 minutes, depending on the size of the mussels. The water will become light and cloudy—that's normal. The shells will open, which indicates the product is fresh!

Step 4

Turn off the heat and, using a slotted spoon, transfer the mussels to a plate or serving dish. Optionally, you can drizzle them with lemon juice, aromatic vegetable oil, or sprinkle with chopped fresh or dried herbs. Let the cooked seafood cool slightly.

Step 5

Serve the fragrant boiled mussels at the table with any sauces. Remember that when tasting, you should separate the mussel from the shell, then remove the foot by which it was attached to the shell, and enjoy the excellent flavor of the dish you've prepared.
