Description

Manty is a very popular dish in Russia. The homeland of manty is traditionally considered to be the countries of Central Asia, where this dish was originally invented. The dish consists of a meat filling wrapped in thin dough. Manty are often compared to Russian dumplings (pelmeni), but they are much larger than their Russian counterparts. Authentic manty are made with minced lamb and onions; in some regions of Asia, pumpkin is also added to the filling. Well, read the manty recipe—then everything will become clear :)

    In a medium bowl, mix the flour and salt for the dough. Make a well in the center and pour in warm water, add 1 egg. Knead for 5-6 minutes. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 10-20 minutes.

    Cut the meat into small pieces. Alternatively, you can use a meat grinder to make minced meat.

    Chop the onion.

    Add the butter and mix the onion with the meat well.

    The filling is ready. You could add finely chopped potatoes, but this step is not mandatory.

    Roll out the dough. Sprinkle with flour to prevent sticking. Fold into a long wide strip.

    Place the filling onto the dough rectangles. Seal the corners on all four sides.

    Bring the water in the steamer to a boil. Place the manty in a multi-tiered steamer. Cook for 45 minutes.
